Half a million dollars back from the mainframe
DSS was paying heavily for mainframe support driven by runaway database load. I audited how the agency's developers were querying the mainframe database and identified every pattern forcing full table scans — queries leaning on unsupported indexes, and a range of other costly practices.
Correcting those patterns removed the load at its source and saved the agency roughly $500,000 in mainframe support costs.
